Speech and Language Therapy Services
Learn what speech and language therapy can do:
Articulation Disorders
Sound production errors which interfere with being understood or draws negative attention to itself.
Stuttering
Disruption of the rhythm of speech. Examples include: sound or syllable repetitions, prolongations or struggle. The inability to get the words out as if they are stuck (referred to as blocks) and secondary physical symptoms such as loss of eye contact, eye closure, eye blinks, head tilts and other physical symptoms.
Language Delay or Disorders
The form (grammar, syntax or structure of language), Content ( the vocabulary, semantic or meaning of language) or the Use ( the pragmatic or way to use language to interact with others) is deficient in comprehension and/or expression.
Hearing Impairment or Deafness
Whether a hearing loss is temporary, such as with chronic ear infections and sinus issues or permanent, speech and language delays and deficits are commonplace.
An Audiologist is the professional that would assess air and bone threshold hearing and middle ear fluid.
Vocal Disorders
These are first diagnosed by an otolaryngologist (ear-nose-throat physican). Vocal nodules or polyps, vocal cord paralysis or utilization of improper pitch levels are some examples of areas requiring voice therapy when referred by the doctor.
There are people with various structural, neurological and chromosomal syndromes that will be helped or stabilized by speech and language remediation such as Cerebral Palsy, Downs Syndrome, Parkinson’s Syndrome, Aphasia, Autism spectrum, and Multiple Scelorisis to name a few.
